In 1987 (Feb) was released the LP SKULL TRASH ZONE vol 1. This is a collective LP where X is participating with 2 songs STAB ME IN THE BACK and NO CONNECTION, by that time X consisted only in Toshi,TAIJI and Yoshiki.
Pata was courted by Yoshiki to support X , so he came for this LP recordings. The 3 members realized PATA must be the 4th member as his skills were valuable and they commune agree after the release of this LP that PATA will no longer be a support crew member but FULL MEMBER OF X . The 5th member was to join the gang :) only a month later, and you guessed the 5th member is...HIDE Niisan
March 87 was full of plans for X, they needed a strategy to lure the Monkey King (I call him like this with love, I've always imagined him like the Monkey King from the Journey To The West story :) ) ...HIDE Niisan...Yoshiki had been watching HIDE's stage performances for a while and he badly wanted him for X...trouble is HIDE was already on his success peack with Saver Tiger which with all respect way way above lil' bands such as X. HIDE brought to the musical scene the unexpected...He ate raw meat at shows and painted his face with animal blood for "special effects"...just my type of guy :) ! He was a savage, wild beautiful creature, HIDE Niisan...no wonder the timid Yoshiki wanted him...close. They had a talk and HIDE came to X, not cause he was easily to be convinced...but he fed up with changing the members of Saver Tiger once in few months... besides when he heard X playing, he felt their potential yearning to make their dream, one of his own...and so 5 unique personalities, different as between the Moon and Earth they start walking together same path...
In August 1987 at Meguro Rokumeikan live from Osaka Bourbon House Is launched the first promotional LP of all the five members of X being a self-produced major debut, first time when all the 5 members of X had shared same stage all together.I talk before few days ago about this LP on my support page for X at
There were 200 people presented at the event and each one of them received from X a free LP as promotional goods, 100 others were gifted here and there by the band's members to promovate the new release under the lucky no 5 format...200 of those LPs had hit the market trough musical magazines...a video tape was also launched on market during same period, it contains 3 songs. Exclamation, Stab Me In The Back and, for first time ever...KURENAI, this is first video where we can genuine feel TAIJI's work at it's true value.
as a funny/painful memory regarding this...the X were very poor at the beginnings and they needed to do most of times thighs by themselves so it comes that PATA who worked in a video rental shop at that time fitted back and forward the tape rolls and also glued the labels together with the other members on the VHSs.
Sometimes later for a very limited edition, Exclamation, the VHS tape was available for Fan Club members, special email order only...the Quality is damn better than the 1st release, but it is still hand processed by band's members. The Exclamation and KURENAI VHSs are very rare specially for being limited as they were released less than 200 copies at that moment.
